That was kind of precisely what was going on. Kai had been thinking real hard about it, sure, but he was still pretty sure he wasn't grasping the real weight of it. Just because he didn't think it was a problem didn't mean it wasn't, as he had learned the last time something of this nature had come up.

That had been a different kind of problem though, hadn't it. The worries there were tied up in being replaced, not being good enough. Shinji leaning in was as comfortable and wholly desired as it had ever been. Nothing about that had changed. The love he had for this boy was unwavering.
